When I moved to San Francisco in 2006, I knew nothing about wine or the wonderful wine regions nearby.
When a friend of mine first suggested “wine tasting,” I immediately pictured a bunch of stiffs with noses and pinky fingers raised, making up things they tasted in the wine. I thought to myself, “It’s just fermented grape juice, people!”
Nevertheless, we gave it a try and spent a Saturday afternoon in Russian River Valley. The winding, tree-lined roads and rolling vineyards blew me away. The people working the winery tasting rooms were unpretentious, normal folks. And then the wine. “I didn’t know wine could taste this way!” I thought. I couldn’t describe a single thing about it, but it was unlike any wine I tasted before. I was hooked. Seduced.
Since then I’ve spent a significant amount of time learning, tasting, visiting different wine regions, and making my own wine. The purpose of my site is to share my thoughts and experiences with you.
Finally, I am certainly no wine “expert.” I am a normal guy who really enjoys wine. Like anyone else, I’m learning as I go.
Cheers,
Tom
